Chores versus jobs.
At my house, my children had chores, and they had jobs.

Chores were responsibilities that were expected from them because they were members of the household. For example, you make your bed because you slept in it. You put your dishes in the sink/dishwasher because you ate. You walk the dog, because you wanted one. These are chores.
My children were not paid to do them, but were expected to do these things
or there would be consequences.
Sometimes, the kids wanted to earn money. This is where the jobs come in.
As they got older, they could wash the car, mow the lawn, pull weeds. These were things that I wanted done and was willing to pay for. I was very upfront about my expectations and what I was offering. We needed to agree to that first.
Jobs are always optional. They
have their own consequences. If you don’t do them, you don’t get paid.
It’s up to you determine what is a job and what is a chore, and how you will handle payments and consequences for each of those in your family.
