Cooking With Kids

This is a great activity to do with children. Not only does it open conversations about where food comes from, but it is a great tool for teaching gratitude and thankfulness for the food, the preparation and serving, and the cleaning up.

Even young children can put slices of bread in a toaster or arrange fruit on a plate. Older children should learn simple meal prep that can last a lifetime.

Most importantly, you can do it together.

Cooking with your children can be as educational as you want. From planning, setting a budget, shopping, and so on. It can also be an opportunity to pass down family traditions.

Food nourishes our bodies and our souls. Teach children early on why it’s better to put some chips in a bowl rather than eat straight out of the bag. (Yay, portion control, not to mention cleanliness!)

As an adult, washing dishes has become daily meditation time. I soak my hands in the warm soapy water and let my mind wander. Funny, I am rarely disturbed by any family member while washing dishes!

Share this with your child. The ability to make a game out of chore will always come in handy.
