Let me explain\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I say &#8220;quality time,&#8221; I mean, not while you\u2019re driving, cooking, answering an email, changing the baby, etc. Stop what you are doing and look in their eyes and really listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As a teacher, sometimes I can\u2019t follow my own advice, but I will always respond with something like this, \u201cI would love to hear more about that. Can you wait two minutes for me to finish what I\u2019m doing?\u201d Of course, then you need to make sure that you do make the time.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how you break the habit of \u201cHow was your day?\u201d \u201cFine.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t ask unless you have time to follow up. \u201cFine?
